photo-guardian.ng A 68-year-old woman gave birth to twins at the Lagos University Teaching Hospital (LUTH), Idi-Araba following an IVF conception.
According to Prof. Wasiu Adeyemo, Chairman, LUTH Medical Advisory Committee (CMAC), he said that this was the woman's first pregnancy after undergoing In Vitro Fertilisation. She delivered through an elective cesarean section at 37 weeks gestation on April 14
He said that the IVF and embryo transfer were done at a facility outside LUTH.
Prof. Adeyemo further said that the woman was, thereafter, referred to LUTH at early gestation and was subsequently managed till she was delivered.
He stated that "this is the first in LUTH, Nigeria and Africa, mother and both babies are in good condition".
