Former Attorney General, Richard Akinjide, Is Dead

Former Attorney-General of the Federation (AGF), Richard Akinjide (SAN), is dead.


Akinjide died in his Ibadan, Oyo State residence early Tuesday after a brief illness. He turned 90 shortly before his death.


Former Minister of State FCT Jumoke Akinjide, who is the daughter of the former AGF, confirmed that her father died just after midnight.


Akinjide was a former minister of education in the government of Prime MinisterTafawa Balewaduring the first republic and the minister for Justice in the administration of President Shehu Shagariin the second republic.


He was a member of the judicial systems sub-committee of the Constitutional Drafting Committee of 1975-1977 and later joined the National Party of Nigeria in 1978. He became the legal adviser for the party and was later appointed the Minister for Justice.
