Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu has expressed his commitment to boosting Lagos State's economic growth by unlocking its tourism potential.


Speaking at the Lagos Boat Regatta 2024, themed "Our Water, Our Heritage, Our Life," the governor emphasized the importance of showcasing the state's waterways as a key tourism asset. He stated,

"We are excited to finally have a boat regatta, the beginning of many activities planned for this Yuletide season. This event demonstrates our dedication to developing Lagos' tourism potential."

Highlighting the state's unique geography, the governor noted,

"One-third of Lagos is surrounded by water, so we must utilize our waterways not just for transportation but as a strong ecosystem for tourism."

He concluded by inviting residents to

"relax, sit back and enjoy the beauty of serenity and tourism potential of the state and the hospitality of Lagos."

The Commissioner for Tourism, Arts and Culture, Toke Benson-Awoyinka, further emphasized the significance of the Lagos Boat Regatta 2024. She stated that the event aimed to "immerse participants in the rich culture of the state's waterway."


Awoyinka also highlighted the event's role in driving economic growth, creating opportunities for local businesses, and solidifying Lagos' reputation as a premier global destination.
