Lagos Goes Though On Government Seal Breakers

The Commissioner for Physical Planning and Urban Development, Dr. Idris Salako, has said that the State would, henceforth, descend on Property Owners and Developers found breaking government seals on any property that had been sealed for abuse of the Physical Planning Laws of the State. The Commissioner, who disclosed this during the on-going Special Enforcement operations in Ikoyi, observed that some unscrupulous developers were in the habit of breaking government seals to carry out construction overnight, thereby endangering the structures as well as the lives of workers on site. While warning those fond of such acts to desist from lawlessness or face the full wrath of the law, he enjoined all developers to always secure Planning Permit from the Lagos State Physical Planning Permit Authority (LASPPPA) as well as to notify the Lagos State Building Control Agency (LASBCA) prior to the commencement of any construction works. Salako urged all residents to support government efforts to curb the menace of illegal and unapproved development, stressing that the State Government's enforcement team has already sealed 52 more unapproved structures in different parts of the State for various infractions. “41 of these structures were sealed on Festac Link Road in Amuwo Odofin Local Government, while the remaining 11 structures were sealed in Ikoyi-Obalende Local Council Development Area and Eti-Osa Local Government”, he said. Speaking further, the Commissioner urged all Lagosians to be part of the vanguard to checkmate the menace of illegal building construction by tipping off the authorities about any illegal development. Other members on the Special Enforcement team include the Special Adviser to the Governor on Urban Development, Mr. Ganiyu Adele Ayuba; Permanent Secretary in the Ministry, Arc. Foluso Adebayo Dipe; General Manager, LASBCA, Engr. Biola Kosegbe; Operatives of LASPPPA and the Special Operations Team of the Governor's Office.
