The vibrant city of Lagos is currently the epicenter of global theatre, hosting the inaugural International Theatre Festival (LITF). This four-day event, which kicked off on November 14th, 2024, is a collaborative effort between Bolanle Austen-Peters, the Lagos State Government, and renowned sponsors like First Bank of Nigeria.

The LITF aims to celebrate the power of theatre and foster cultural exchange between nations. The festival brings together talented performers and theatre enthusiasts from diverse backgrounds, including Nigeria, the United States, South Africa, Zambia, and other countries.

One of the primary goals of the LITF is to revive the spirit of the iconic FESTAC '77, a cultural festival that had a profound impact on Nigeria's social, cultural, and economic landscape. By showcasing a wide range of theatrical performances, workshops, and masterclasses, the festival seeks to inspire and educate the next generation of artists.

Bolanle Austen-Peters, the visionary behind the LITF, emphasized the importance of using the arts as a tool for unity and understanding. She highlighted the role of theatre in breaking down barriers, promoting empathy, and fostering cross-cultural dialogue.

First Bank of Nigeria, a leading financial institution, has taken a significant step in supporting the arts and culture sector by sponsoring the LITF. Oluseyi Oyefeso, the Executive Director of First Bank, explained that the bank's commitment to the arts aligns with its broader goal of promoting economic growth and social development.

The LITF promises to be a memorable event, showcasing the rich cultural heritage and artistic talent of Nigeria and the world. It is a testament to the power of theatre to inspire, entertain, and transform lives.
