The Lagos State government, through the New Towns Development Authority (NTDA), has called for citizen engagement in development, promising to ensure a conducive environment for all to thrive.
The General Manager of NTDA, Olakunle Aboyeji, a town planner, hosted a stakeholders’ meeting on the Epe Mixed Development Scheme and Labour City, with the aim of fostering collaboration and synergy among stakeholders.
The meeting, which took place at the Epe Charlet, Epe, Lagos, brought together representatives from various sectors, including the Lagos State Government, Real Estate Developers Association of Nigeria (REDAN), consultants, and community leaders. Aboyeji emphasized the importance of collaborative efforts in shaping the future of communities.
He noted that the Epe Mixed Development Scheme is designed to provide a functional and sustainable urban environment, with a focus on socio-economic improvement.
“Epe is rapidly transforming into a hub for mega developments, with several projects underway, including the Lagos State Food Security Systems and Central Logistics Hub, the Lekki-Epe International Airport, and the Dangote Refinery. These projects are expected to drive economic growth, create jobs, and stimulate local businesses in the area,” he said
In his remarks, the Head of the Department of Town Planning Services, NTDA, and Chairman of the Stakeholders Committee, Olusola Orebiyi, said the Epe Mixed Development Scheme and Labour City Scheme are designed to ensure proper arrangements for development, accommodating complementary uses.
Orebiyi said that the NTDA’s role is to ensure the land is well-utilized and arranged for a conducive environment, not for personal gain. He noted that the government institution is responsible for regulating and coordinating the activities of developers, aligning with the master plan and the state’s future.
“The NTDA has begun engaging citizens, including developers, to sensitise them on the project’s intentions. The government considers the families involved in the compensation process, providing opportunities for them to acquire accommodation in the area.”
“The Epe Mixed Development Scheme is part of the Lagos State Government’s efforts to transform Epe into a major economic hub. With several mega-projects underway, including the Lekki-Epe International Airport, Lekki Free Trade Zone, and Dangote Refinery, Epe is poised to become a prime location for real estate investment,” he said.
As the NTDA continues to engage stakeholders, Orebiyi emphasized the importance of cooperation between the government, developers, and citizens to create a beautiful and livable environment in Epe.
“The stakeholders’ meeting on the Epe Mixed Development Scheme and Labour City marks a significant step towards achieving the Lagos State Government’s vision of creating a functional and sustainable urban environment. With the collaboration of stakeholders, the scheme is expected to drive socio-economic improvement and make Epe a desirable location for investors, homeowners, and businesses alike,” Orebiyi added.
