The Lagos State Ministry of Tourism, Arts, and Culture has reaffirmed its dedication to solidifying the state's position as Africa's entertainment hub, building upon the extraordinary triumph of 'Detty December,' which captivated over 1.2 million revelers from Nigeria and the global diaspora in 2024.
Mrs. Toke Benson-Awoyinka, the Commissioner for Tourism, Arts, and Culture, conveyed this during a courtesy visit from Ghazi Shami, the founder of Empire Distribution, Records, and Publishing Company USA, to her office on Tuesday.
Underscoring the pivotal role of the entertainment sector in the success of 'Detty December,' Benson-Awoyinka commended the contributions of musical icons such as Wizkid, Burna Boy, Tiwa Savage, Olamide, Adekunle Gold, Seyi Vibez, and others.
She unveiled plans to amplify the impact of the 2025 edition, aligning with Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu's vision of propelling economic and cultural development through tourism.
She announced plans to bridge existing gaps through initiatives such as the establishment of a music academy, talent hunts, and specialized training programs.
Ghazi Shami, founder of Empire, lauded Lagos for its achievements and described Detty December as a "global showcase of African excellence."
