A Lebanese man, Wael Jerro, who advertised a Nigerian lady for sale on Facebook has been arrested by authorities in the country.

Chairman Nigerians in Diaspora Commission (NIDCOM), Abike Dabiri Erewa, confirmed this in a tweet on Thursday.

She tweeted that “The Lebanese Government just announced the arrest of Mr. Wael Jerro for onward prosecution against criminal sales of a human, a young Nigerian girl”.

In a Facebook post that went viral, Jerro had advertised the victim Busari Peace, with her Nigerian passport on a 'Buy and Sell in Lebanon' page and a price tag of $1,000. This caused an outrage on social media, Nigerians called for Busari's rescue and Jerro's arrest.

Following the Facebook post, NIDCOM said the case was reported to the Lebanese authorities while a manhunt was launched to apprehend the suspect.

The Lebanese Ministry of Labour, issued a circular condemning the action of Mr Wael Jerro as completely unethical, a violation of Lebanese laws and human rights.

The ministry also stated that legal action will be constituted against the suspect for human trafficking before a competent judicial authority.

The Nigerian Mission in Lebanon has demanded that the victim be handed over to the mission unconditionally and in good health.
