Lights On for Lagos: A New Era of Electricity Regulation!!!

Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, has approved the constitution of the Lagos State Electricity Regulatory Commission (LASERC), marking a significant milestone in the state’s energy sector development.


The governor said that the commission is tasked with overseeing and regulating electricity market operations within the state.


The appointments, which are subject to confirmation by the Lagos State House of Assembly, take immediate effect.


In a statement, Governor Sanwo-Olu expressed confidence in the commission’s ability to drive the state’s energy agenda. “The constitution of LASERC is a crucial step in ensuring that Lagos continues to lead the way in energy innovation, sustainability, and reliability,” he said.


Engr. Odubiyi, who previously served as a pioneer commissioner with the Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission, has been involved in projects spanning gas and coal power stations, as well as electricity tariff design.


Reacting to his appointment, he stated: “I am honored to be part of this transformative initiative for Lagos, and I look forward to collaborating with the team to further develop the state’s energy landscape.”


Dr. Animashaun, a seasoned expert in energy policy and infrastructure, has also served as Managing Director of Igando Electric and Special Adviser on Power to the Lagos State Government. Commenting on his new role, he said: “I am committed to ensuring that Lagos’ energy vision, which is inclusive and growth-focused, becomes a reality for all residents.”


Olokun-Olawoyin, a legal expert in power sector management, has held leadership roles at Eko Electricity Distribution Plc and the Transcorp Group.3 Speaking on her appointment, she remarked: “I am excited to contribute to the development of a robust regulatory framework that will support sustainable energy solutions in Lagos.”


Engr. Fadare, a recognized expert in Nigeria’s power infrastructure, previously held senior leadership roles in Transcorp Power Limited and the Niger Delta Power Holding Company.4 He stated: “I am excited to contribute to the mission of delivering reliable and sustainable energy solutions for Lagos.”


Barr. Benson, an experienced energy law and digital innovations expert, has served in various leadership roles in high-value energy projects. He said: “I look forward to playing an integral role in ensuring a fair, transparent, and efficient electricity market in Lagos.”
