Music From Lasgidi

Music that originates from Lagos artistes and core Lagos Musicians is multilateral and has great sounds of many different genres which is appealing not just to its people but also has a global acceptance and credibility. The various genres comprise of:

  • High Life

  • Fuji

  • Apala

  • Juju

  • Reggae & hip hop

  • Afrobeats

These genres of music have been exploited by many talented Nigerian artistes whose sounds are still favourably listened to at home and abroad. they also help in showcasing our culture, norms and lifestyle of Lagosians fondly called Lasgidi by the trending youth, elites and socialites who reside and/or visit Lagos State regularly.

Our type of music depicts the style and talent that these Lagos artistes exhibit and sell to the world. The artistes who have depicted such talent and popularity all over are in the focal range of the late legend Fela Anikulapo-Kuti who was fondly known as Fela – (Baba70) for his Afrobeats, also the likes of Ebenezer Obey and King Sunny Ade who were also into highlife and Juju respectively; and one of the first Africans to gain international success and have been categorized as some of the most influential musicians of all time.

Now to the Modernized type of music which is fondly called and recognized as Afro-pop. We have various artists who from Lagos who have sprung up and made the city proud and put Lagos on the world map with the has-tag “Lagos Jumping”. For example, one of the talented artists who recently sprang out from Lagos who is fondly called Wizikid, in one of his lines on his Songs titled “No Lele” which says his ‘music travels no visa’ shows that it’s bringing Lagos closer to the rest of the world. Exporting the lyrical goodness of the cosmopolitan Lagos and infusing modern music acumen into traditional stereotypes for global consumption.

Another example is that of Falz; an artist with a sterling brand. His diction and accents fully integrate the local and traditional methods of pronunciation with new trending and strong points in social media terms such as “hello bae” he also passed promotional messages of Lagos in one line of his song titled La fete which says that ‘Have you ever been to Lagos – Have you been with a guy from my city’?  We also have various acts who have put Lagos on the showbiz and entertainment map globally include: Davido, Tiwa Savage, Runtown, Patoranking, 2face idibia, Burna Boy,Olamide, Dbanj, Rhema, Simi, Yemi Alade, Asa etc…
