Muslims Urged To Pray At Home During Ramadan

Saudi Arabia's highest religious body council of Senior Scholars of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia has urged all Muslims to prepare for the Holy Month of Ramadan and abide by precautionary and preventive health measures when performing all acts of worship.

The council urged Muslims worldwide to pray at home during Ramadan if their countries require social distancing, to help curb the spread of the coronavirus.

According to the Saudi Press Agency (SPA) report on Sunday, The General Secretariat issued the following recommendations for all Muslims:

First: Muslims shall abide by the decisions of competent authorities in their countries or countries in which they reside, which aim to preserve public health and limit the spread of the novel Coronavirus pandemic.

Second: Muslims shall perform obligatory prayers and Taraweeh prayers at their homes if competent authorities in their countries or countries in which they reside recommend them.

Third: Muslims must avoid gatherings, given that the gathering is considered the main cause of the spread of infection according to relevant medical reports, including communal Iftar and Suhoor meals.

The Saudi government in mid-March banned worshippers from performing their five daily prayers inside mosques as part of efforts to limit the spread of coronavirus.

During the holy fasting month, believers usually break their fast with families and friends and perform an evening prayer in large gatherings at mosques.
